Ray Liotta was cast in the film in February 2022, but died in May of that year before he could film his scenes. Dennis Quaid replaced him, but Liotta is still mentioned in the director’s “Thank You Notes” during the credits. The bathroom mirror reappears intact after being repeatedly broken during the fight sequence. Elisabeth Sparkle: There was some slight misuse of the substance. Pump It Up Written by Michael Hall, Leonardo Stella Acted by Earl Gregory Produced by Julien Deguines. Let me start with the positives. There are SO MANY of them. The cast? Perfect. The acting? Pretty impeccable. Every performance drew me in and added so much to the story. The concept was phenomenal and super interesting. A really great idea for a movie. The cinematography was unique and really good. The score also added a lot to the suspense. The first 2/3 of the movie accomplished all of those things to a T. So why 6 stars? THE ENDING. It took the believable and suspenseful aspects of the story and threw it out the window in favor of the director’s Cronenbergian fantasy and desire to maximize the special effects budget. It came out completely disorganized, almost like they had no idea what to do with the ending or any desire to make it interesting. A movie with so much going for it and I left the theater disappointed. Side notes: Enough with the butt shots. We get what you’re trying to do, that’s enough. Also, if you want to gross out your audience, do the work in the writers’ room. Adding over-the-top squishing sounds to almost every scene is lazy.
